Thankful Thursday – The Strand Bookstore

This is a first in a new series – Thankful Thursdays. Each week, PT will feature a new person, place or thing that we’re grateful for.

It’s the tiniest of gestures, just a little thank you, but it will hopefully either give you something new to be thankful for or remind you of something else that deserves a little gratitude. Plus it’s really good for the soul.

Today we’re thankful for The Strand Bookstore. The Strand is one of my happy places, even when it’s Christmas in New York and the place is overpacked. This world-famous store has everything you need and a little bit more. When I was in acting school, me and many, many, other students would visit the Drama section for great deals on biographies and play anthologies. Most of the time, you could strike up a conversation with another actor, and it was nice to see that you weren’t alone.

After my son was born, visiting the extensive children’s section was a fun way to carry on the tradition of reading and gifting books that my Mom gave me.

This week, Fred Bass, the longtime owner passed away.

The New York Times had a great article celebrating his life and detailing the history of the bookstore. You can check it out HERE.

Pay The Strand a visit next time you’re in New York. You’ll be thanking me. You can visit their website HERE.
